Diabetic Feet and Comfort Shoes
People with diabetes should pay careful attention to their feet as there are many complications associated with diabetes which can affect many them adversely.
One in four Americans suffering from diabetes will develop foot problems related to the disease. Diabetic foot conditions develop from a combination of causes including poor circulation and neuropathy. Diabetic Neuropathy can cause insensitivity or a loss of ability to feel pain, heat, and cold easily resulting in the development of minor cuts, scrapes, blisters, or pressure sores. If these minor injuries are left untreated, complications can result and lead to ulceration or even amputation.
Footwear and orthotics play a crucial role in diabetic footcare. Diabetic footwear should offer a wide toe box leaving plenty of room in the toe area, removable insoles to insert orthotics. Rocker soles can also reduce pressure in the areas of the foot most susceptible excessive pressure.
